Skateboarding has been a popular way to get around for decades. However, one of the biggest hurdles for people looking to pick up the hobby is balancing and having the right posture for riding. Although we’ve previously covered skateboards here at SnapMunk, we’re covering SPECTRA as it is the only smart eBoard with an ever-learning 3D posture control system, ABS braking, and interactive app control. The built-in pressure and gyro sensors enable SPECTRA to learn the user’s body movements and riding style for a unique ride.
To use the board, users lean forward to accelerate, backward to decelerate, and brake. The turning assistant enables a differential speed in two hub motors which help users to turn swiftly. The motors within SPECTRA are built to climb a 27% incline on a ramp. SPECTRA Advanced is equipped with all the features of the pro model but with two regenerative hub motors. SPECTRA Silver is equipped with all-wheel drive and an Apple level magnesium unibody, making it the most powerful model in the line of boards.
One of the unique elements of the skateboard is the WALNUTT eBoard Go App which enables users to share riding paths, explore new areas, and also serves as an alternative remote control as needed. The controls work with both the user’s phones touch screen and their volume buttons. The app also enables users to upgrade the firmware of the smart eBoard. The device has speed modes of Beginner (6 mph), Sport (11 mph), and Pro (22 mph). SPECTRA Pro is the only eBoard in the world equipped with the smallest ABS braking module, the MagBrake. The brake is designed to shorten the braking distance of the board by 47% and is activated by the absence of a rider or unstable conditions.
All four models of SPECTRA are equipped with LED indicators to keep riders safe during the night, showing battery status while also keeping the riders visible when riding in the dark. It has a range of 12.4 miles, and the batteries are chargeable via the easy to use magnetic port, and there’s a 90 minute charging time. SPECTRA’s carbon body unibody is built using supercar-grade manufacturing – a feature specific to this line of smart eBoards.
So far, the makers of SPECTRA have raised over $322,000 via crowdfunding which is significantly higher than their original goal of $50,000. The estimated shipping date for the SPECTRA mini starts at September 2017. Early bird pricing for the device starts at $299 which is 25% off the retail price of $399. SPECTRA advanced has pricing starting at $569 which is 19% off the retail price of $699. SPECTRA Pro sells for $799 which is 28% off the retail price of $1,099, and SPECTRA Silver is 14% off the retail price of $1,399.
