The supremacy of beer as America’s alcoholic drink of choice still stands–it accounts for close to 50% of all boozy beverage purchases. Unlike the values this nation was built on, however, not every beer is created equal. Without the right amount of head in your pour, you’re just not getting a bona fide experience.
Fizzics is a beer system that curates a draft quality experience straight from virtually any off-the-shelf beer. The Fizzics system is engineered to provide an enhanced aroma, flavor, taste, as well as a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. The patent-pending fluid & gas technology is engineered to create an ultra-dense, long-lasting foam head.
You supply the beer, position inside of what looks like a Keurig machine, place the plastic straw inside of the beer, and Fizzics does the rest. As long as it’s a standard size bottle, can, or growler, Fizzics claims it will work. By controlling the pressure flow, fluid and gas dynamics, Fizzics is able to create a rich, creamy head. It’s powered by 4 standard AA batteries and comes in a lightweight form factor.
Improving fizz might sound trivial, but anyone who’s ever said “I prefer beer from a pub” knows the significant difference a proper pour can make. Bubbles and fizz are essential because they enhance aroma and flavor, are visually appealing, and provide a sense of fullness on the tongue.
You can get some of that head from a hand pour, but the random movement of the bubbles and minerals means space goes to waste and there’s less density and froth. When you pour a beer by hand, you’re creating mechanical agitation which creates a form of randomly packed bubbles and non-uniform shapes. These take up more space, causing the beer to be less dense and frothy.
Traditional tap systems, which can be purchased for home use, require extensive sets of equipment: keg, faucet handle, tower, regulator, beer & air lines, CO2, and nitrogen tanks. They’re quite expensive and rely on a lot of moving parts. Instead, Fizzics just relies on the inherent properties of beer.
“Standard sizes” compatible with the device include both large and small bottles such as “Bombers” (22-oz bottle package format) and cans from 16-oz “Tall Boys” to 32-oz “Man Cans”, or the Fizzics 64-oz growlers.
The system is also FDA cleared. In order to ensure safety, all components are manufactured, assembled and packaged in a positive pressure Class 100 Clean Room environment and regularly subjected to rigorous testing to meet the stringent requirements of the FDA.
As for funding, Fizzics raised over $240,000 by the close of their recent Indiegogo campaign. The system currently sells for $169 for US customers and $199 for international customers. For $219 users can purchase the Fizzics system and a growler. For comparison, a kegerator equipped with a tap would be hard to find under $500. Shipping is also included with all Fizzics purchases.
For the brick-and-morter type who wants to see the product before they buy, Fizzics can be found in Cabela’s, Brookstone, Target, Best Buy, and Total Wine & More, where cool but nonessential gifts go to meet their adoring public.
