The big question for all those who seek to become a great leader would be, how do you achieve personal development? What is the biggest secret to success? I understand these questions may be a little hard to answer. It would almost be as though someone is asking you how you decide which toothpaste you have decided to use. Personal development is not something that you must achieve in order to become successful, however it would not hurt you either. Success can be described in different ways, that matter is subjective to the person who is defining it. A farmer may view a healthy crop as success, and a businessman may view becoming partner as a success. It is all relative to the person.
Personal development is for the most part conducted on our own time.
It is done in our down time so that we may get ahead. There is a majority of people out there that assume you have to be better or get better at a particular thing in order to achieve success, then once you have completed that one thing you continue to move to the next thing on the list. The perception of this cycle is skewed.
No matter the title you give the act, whether it is personal growth, self-realization or personal development, the act of achieving this does not really matter if it is not genuine. What is most important is to be the best human being you can possibly be. Trying to use personal development as a vehicle to make it to a greater bigger and better goal is not where the focus should be. The goal is not to have your actions be from a result of personal development but to constantly engage in personal development.
Becoming a successful leader is not just about the rigidity of rules and regulations and doing only what you are required to do.
It is about going above and beyond what is required of you showing others that they are important and that they matter. Without them, you would not have the position you have or desire to have. Dedicating your entire life to developing personally is an edge you will have over other who may only seek title and temporary financial success.
Being successful is more than a job description. If you want to continue to be successful making a memorable impression, going above and beyond despite the fact there is no one to pat you on the back. Self-discipline is necessary for any form of success, if you quit while in the middle of a task because you lost motivation than success will not follow you wherever you go. Practicing self-discipline is a form of personal development.
The true balance between your personal life and business is in the factor of personal development, focusing on being a better human being and not just working towards a goal of monetary gain. Living for a higher purpose than self, is one of the biggest and most hidden pieces of success advice. Truly becoming engulfed in being a better human being, truly caring about others, as well as placing others before yourself leads you to the road of success. Being a doormat is not necessary to being a human being, but being kind, and compassionate, and considerate of others is. Be genuine, people can tell when you are behaving in a phony manner.
Becoming personally developed in humanity will become your biggest asset, living your life in a constant state of becoming better.
Living daily practicing self-discipline, responding in a timely manner, as well as providing services or products on time and as discussed. These attributes makeup the bulk of personal development. Taking into consideration the golden rule, of treating others, as you would like to be treated.
Searching for mentors and colleagues you can learn from is a great way of gaining knowledge in your desired field; yes this can be seen as a form of personal development. Will it make you successful? It is possible, but if you were mean or nasty or even undercut these people who are helping you gain footing, that would kill your success quicker than you can spell successful.
Do not view personal development as a means to become a successful leader or entrepreneur, but being a successful leader and entrepreneur as a way to learn personal development. If you want the success to be authentic and, long term rather than fleeting and short lived it is important to make personal development a daily act of being a better human.
